Conference Room Eligible Uses –

The Library’s Conference Room is available on a first-come, first-pay basis during library hours: Monday through Friday from 9am – 6pm, Saturday 9am – 5pm and has a maximum occupancy of 45. 

The Mountain Home Public Library Conference Room is intended for educational, civic, cultural, and library-related purposes consistent with Idaho Code Title 33, Chapter 26 [PDF]. Use of the conference room must remain free for Mountain Home residents. Library sponsored activities & City Departments take priority. The library offers the facility as a location for workshops, seminars, lectures, and other professional and educationally oriented meetings/presentations but is not intended to substitute as a permanent operational location for any individual, group, and/or organization. All meetings must be open to the public unless otherwise approved by the Library Director or Library Board. No fee may be charged for admission to a meeting held in the library conference room. Parties are not allowed. The following examples are provided to guide applicants and staff in determining eligibility.

✅ Examples of Appropriate Uses / Groups

Educational Groups:
– Tutoring sessions (volunteer or school-sponsored)
– GED prep, ESL, literacy workshops
– Study groups (school, homeschool, or college)
– Standardized testing (with proctors)

Civic & Community Groups:
– City departments (training, meetings, workshops)
– Neighborhood/community associations
– Local nonprofit board meetings (with civic/educational mission)
– Public information sessions (census, city planning, disaster preparedness)

Cultural & Library-Related Programs:
– Book clubs and reading groups
– Author talks or educational lectures
– Cultural heritage or hobby workshops
– Storytelling, history, genealogy groups

Supportive / Identity-Based Groups (when approved):
– Youth clubs (with adult supervision)
– Senior support groups
– Health or wellness education workshops
– Peer-support meetings (confidentiality allowed with exemption)

🚫 Examples of Uses Typically Not Permitted

Private Social Events:
– Birthday parties, baby showers, family reunions, wedding receptions

Commercial or For-Profit Activities:
– Direct sales presentations (MLM, insurance, etc.)
– Paid classes not co-sponsored by the Library/City
– Business operations using the library as office space

Partisan Political or Advocacy Campaigns:
– Campaign rallies or fundraising events
– Signature-gathering for ballot measures (inside the room)
– Endorsement-focused events

Events Charging Admission or Requiring Purchase:
– Ticketed performances
– Fee-based seminars without Library/City co-sponsorship

This list is not exhaustive. The Library Director or Library Board may deny or approve requests based on compliance with Library Policy [PDF, 438.88 KB], City of Mountain Home Code Title 8, Chapter 6, Section 8-6-2, and Idaho State Code – Title 33, Chapter 26, Section 2601 & 2603 [PDF].

Applicants unsure of eligibility should contact the Library Director before submitting a reservation.
